Nurses awarded a fellowship under the ABC Global Alliance-EONS Nurse Fellowship Programme will join one of our host institutions as an observer for the duration of their fellowship. Host institutions are centres of excellence in breast cancer care that have kindly agreed to share their expertise with a fellowship nurse.

Centre Antoine Lacassagne is one of 19 Comprehensive Cancer Centres in France's National Cancer Federation (UNICANCER), treating cancer exclusively.

UNICANCER centres also have teaching and research missions; the nurse observership will be structured as a training program covering the different stages of the breast cancer treatment.

The nurse will gain invaluable experience in all aspects of caring for patients with breast cancer, encompassing knowledge, skills, and professional conduct. This placement provides an opportunity to engage with real-world practice and will also allow the nurse to apply relevant knowledge to professional situations, to question, understand, and analyse these situations, and to envision her or his future practice.

The Oncology Unit manages a wide range of solid tumours, and has particular expertise in breast cancer. Multidisciplinary reviews of every patient ensure personalized, optimal treatment plans. Advanced imaging and diagnostics support precise decision-making. Patients receive holistic care with dedicated nurse coordinators, psychologists, dietitians, and social workers.

Proposed fellowship experience:

Observe care and resources delivered at outpatient and inpatient clinics, supportive and palliative care clinics/unit, survivorship and follow-up clinics, and nurse coordinator consultations

Observe the on-site wellbeing/wellness unit, and outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation services

Attend weekly rounds and weekly multidisciplinary meeting (MDM)

Observe improvement and innovation projects, e.g. the planned introduction of tele-monitoring and documentation of clinical pathways

The Trinity St James's Cancer Institute (TSJCI) is a joint initiative of St James's Hospital, Ireland's largest hospital, and Trinity College Dublin, Ireland's premier university.

TSJCI is a comprehensive cancer centre accredited by the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI). It is Ireland's largest adult designated national cancer centre.

The nurse fellowship will be overseen by St James's HOPe Directorate, dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate care to patients. With a multidisciplinary team of specialists, the directorate delivers cutting edge treatments, advanced diagnostic services and holistic support tailored to the individual needs of each patient and their families. HOPe Directorate offers access to clinical trials and pioneering therapies, ensuring the most up-to-date care.

Proposed fellowship experience:

Two morning clinics with metastatic breast advanced nurse practitioner (ANP)

Acute oncology haematology service half-day

Inpatient oncology haematology ward (one day, including round with breast cancer consultants)

Haematology oncology day ward (one day)

Regular meetings with medical oncology breast CNS

Breast cancer MDT

Cancer clinical trials half-day

Palliative care team half-day (CNSs/ANP)

BRCA genetics clinic with registered genetic counsellor

Breast care team, 3 days (Breast care CNSs, ANPs, pre-op education, triple assessment clinic)

Operating theatre half-day to view breast cancer surgeries

Radiation oncology (one day)

Survivorship CNS or advanced nurse practitioner clinic
